Location Based Social Search

This past February, we discussed the launch of  Google Search Plus Your World.

As the trend in social search rises, companies are becoming more innovative with its capabilities in an effort to stay ahead of the curve.

Last week “the next big thing” in social search was announced. Company Wajam rolled out a social search functionality that lives within Google maps. Wajam uses social check-in data from Facebook Check-in and Foursquare to deliver personalized search results to users. Now, when searching for the best pizza place in New York, your friend’s personal recommendations populate within a map and a link to the establishment’s social platform they used to share it on.

Users have the option to filter their personalized search results within Wajam by specific friends, relevance and timeliness. The search extension is completely opt-in and users can turn it on or off according to their preferences. Users can either use the Wajam.com search engine or install the Wajam Social Search Everywhere Plugin for access.

Wajam displays social recommendations to users wherever they may look for information, including TripAdvisor, YouTube, Bing, Google and more.
