With the 12-month grace period for complying with cookie legislation allowed by the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office set to run out at the end of May 2012, the IMRG has released a new updated guidance document.
If you need a refresh on what the new legislation says you can read our previous post.
The key point to note is that despite the law stating that users can set cookie preferences in their browser; the ICO is saying this is not explicit enough. One for the lawyers perhaps.
This does mean that you need to take action now and we recommend the IMRG guidance document as a good starting point. We’ve already briefed our clients on what we think the May deadline means and we are working to help them to get ready. We are also revising our guidance in light of the new comments by the ICO.
